X Games Aspen Day 3 brought upsets to the Slopestyle course as prohibitive favorites Mark McMorris and Jamie Anderson left with silver medals failing to defend their gold.
After winning the gold medal Friday night in Snowboard Big Air, Max Parrot left X Games Aspen with another gold medal after beating McMorris in Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle after retaking the lead on his final run.
“I came to Aspen looking to progress and improve on the great season that I am having so far,” said Parrot. “Last year I really wanted the gold in slopestyle. I had a lot of pressure going into my last run, being in second position. I just really, really wanted it and did what I had to do. It’s a fun sport. These are all my friends and we’re here to have a good time.”
In Ladies Snowboard Slopestyle, Silje Norendal added a second career gold medal to her career achievements as she beat out defending gold medalist Jamie Anderson needing her final run to secure the win.
“I had so much focus coming into X Games,” said Norendal. “It was such a great feeling to land the entire run and piece it all together. This has always been the event I was looking forward to since I was very young when I began to snowboard. Winning here today has been a dream of mine for a very long time. It’s a dream come true.”
